Social Worker/Case Manager (Ongoing CPS)

This full-time social work and case management position will provide ongoing services to CPS Families. Responsibilities include case management, assessing family needs, making placement decisions, providing court recommendations, working with community resources, and receiving and documenting reports of abuse and neglect. Additionally, this role may involve voluntary case management. The position also includes rotating Access Intake duties and participation in a 24-hour juvenile intake on-call rotation.

Essential Functions of the Position:

Children and Families Unit Case Management:

  • Manage cases for children, youth, and families. Address immediate safety concerns for children in need of protection or services, assess and plan for safety, develop case plans, prepare for and participate in court hearings (including permanency, dispositional, change of placement, and criminal proceedings), coordinate services, monitor dispositional orders, and collaborate with service providers to meet family needs.
  • Provide Voluntary Services. Help families identify formal and informal community supports.

Access Intake:

  • Participate in the Access rotation.
  • Receive and document abuse/neglect reports, forwarding them to the supervisor or lead worker.
  • Offer information and resources to those contacting the Department.
  • Conduct initial interviews to determine the nature of access or service needs and identify the most appropriate unit or department to assist the individual.

On-Call: Respond to incoming child protection and juvenile delinquency emergencies after hours, make decisions about immediate safety, determine custody of children/youth, coordinate with law enforcement regarding custody decisions, and work with emergency placement or juvenile detention.

Education and/or Experience:

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree with a major in social work or a closely related field, valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proficient computer skills. Additionally, prior work experience as a Social Worker or Case Manager or alike position with a working knowledge of social work principles, professional documentation, and ethics and boundaries.

A familiarity with Chapters 48 and 938 of the Wisconsin Children’s Code and knowledge of the eWiSACWIS computer system and county child protection and/or juvenile justice experience is preferred.

State training will be provided as is required to meet standards for specific job duties.

Ability to maintain confidential information. Ability to meet and deal with public and to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with staff and members of the public. Ability to exercise good judgment in approaching situations and making decisions. Ability to prepare and maintain clear and accurate records and reports. Ability to carry out directions and implement programs and policies set forth by governing committees.
