Description
A. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

· Considerable knowledge of nursing theory with special emphasis on psychiatric care.

· Considerable knowledge of the literature and new developments in psychiatric nursing.

· Ability to ensure optimal quality of patient care within the frame work of available personnel and material resources.

· Ability to relate to and establish rapport and confidence with patients.

· Ability to interface with professional staff.

· Ability to plan, develop and implement programs for psychiatric clients through the use of other professional and para-professional staff.

· Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality.

· Knowledge of or ability to learn Wisconsin law as it applies to mental illness.

· Dependable, cooperative and emotionally stable.

· Provide nursing consultation Community Support Program.

· Administer and monitor medication treatment required according to consumer Treatment Plan.

· Work with other team staff members to maintain consumer in the least restrictive area.

· Provide follow along and case management to assigned clients.

· Provide, as needed, assessments and monitoring of health problems during a crisis or on a maintenance basis.

· Recognize medical or emotional crises or emergencies, make a knowledgeable nursing assessment and enable an appropriated resolution of the problem.

· Visit consumers in their natural environment for the purpose of assessing and monitoring prescribed medications and providing supportive psychotherapy.

· Participate in meetings, staff and in-services as scheduled.

· Inform all significant service providers of any changes in patient’s behavior, medication reaction, etc.

· Perform written work as assigned, including, but not limited to, Progress Notes, Clinical Summaries, etc.

· Coordinate and administer IM medications.

· Collaborate with psychiatrist regarding scheduling, intake evaluations, medication management, and other nursing functions.

B. QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

· Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Nursing or Behavioral Sciences.

· Licensure and current registration with the Wisconsin State Board of Nursing.

· Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and vehicle insurance.

C. ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMAND OF POSITION

Office setting and community setting. At times will work with individuals who are upset, irrational, or otherwise not in control of themselves, some of which could become violent. Some afterhours work will be required.

D. EQUIPMENT USED

Qualified person should be familiar with dictating equipment, calculators and computers.
